Crafts + Life

So first off: I’m excited to report that today is day 18 that I’ve logged my food in a row!! I’ve been logging my food on my LoseIt! app and trying to get in any exercise I can. Slow but I’m sticking with it! I’m not below my calorie goal/eating in line my macros everyday but I TRY and that’s what counts!

I’m pumped to keep up with it through the holidays and know that I’ll see results! I’m already down a total of 35lbs! It’s slow but it’s healthy and it works! It’s a lifestyle change 💪

For the meal prep finds this week:

I made some super yummy food this week for my meal preps that I totally recommend. My top two were creamy cheesy garlic spaghetti squash and my low carb lasagna bake.

The spaghetti squash was amazing. Low carb and delicious. My one squash made 6.5 2/3c servings and the nutrition was good:

Also: the squash heats up great too. Essentially I’m definitely making spaghetti squash like all the time. The cheddar cream sauce was also super clutch. 🥰 Get. In. My. Belly.

The lasagna bake was also super yummy. Very cheesy but good with a small serving of pasta (we use these for quick pasta adds to dinner – they’re new for us but I love the convenience). Sometimes just half a cup of pasta is all you need and, though it is adding carbs, it’s not a whole cup worth. The lasagna bake was also good as a sandwich.

Here’s the lasagna bake nutrition per serving:

As far as crafting goes…

My newest fancy is acrylic pouring. It is so much fun and I’ve made 7 paintings so far. Two are totally done and the others I’m still working on. There are so many cool techniques and methods to use so each time I try something different or new. I’ve used alcohol, a torch, silicone, different top coats/sealants, different pouring mediums, different pouring methods, and even different surfaces. There’s so many options and it’s a lot of fun exploring.

I want to take a video of some of my pours and maybe I will if I ever get a cheap tripod for my phone. Right now it’s too hard to position my phone right to record what I’m doing. For now pictures will have to do!

Here are a few I’ve made so far. Next up I want to try coasters, cutting boards, serving dishes, and more!

What color combos should I try next?!

But how’s that time management thing going?

I’m loving that I set aside the time to craft. And then, during that time, I actually craft. Owning my free time has been freeing. I decide what to do with my time and I love reaping the rewards! I feel like I get more done (and who doesn’t like feeling productive). Today we super cleaned the house (like the whole house), went through all of Hannah’s toys to sort out stuff to donate/pack up, dropped stuff off at Goodwill, and I got to work on some paintings.

All in all = #winning

Plan to Own My Free Time

As an effort to plan better and manage my time more effectively I’m going to work on changing a few things about myself. First, what type of activities do I want to focus on in a given week? Like consciously, each week, what do I want to do to be happy? What will make me feel like I’m effectively using my time how I want?

For me those things are…

  • Getting in some exercise
  • Eating healthier and meal prepping
  • Spending time with family
  • Spending time with friends
  • Having time to craft/DIY
  • Setting aside some video game time
  • & Blogging!

Outside of list, how can I make sure I actually do these things? I’m a major planner already so I’ve decided to plan a wee bit more. Looking at our schedule for each week I want to set aside time to do the above things. I think this will help to keep me from just watching Netflix/Hulu at night (wasting my evenings). Inste will make the most of my free time and feel successful in the areas of my life I previously felt I didn’t have time for. I’m sure my “activity list” will morph but this is my list I’m starting with.

With all of that in mind, below is my plan for “loving my free time again”. In the upcoming week I’ll fit in gym time, meal prepping, cleaning, family/friend time, watching TV, blogging, video games, and crafting/kitchen reno work.

MONDAY: a bit of cleaning, some meal prepping, and relaxing with some video game time. #1 I want to clean since the house will need some love with us having left for our trip in a hurry Thursday night (and getting back at 945pm on Sunday before working Monday). #2 Meal prepping is a must for eating healthier but the menu kinda depends on what’s in the fridge and, being in that I’m in the car right now, I’m not sure what we have currently. I think I can make pizza chicken and bacon cheeseburger cauliflower casserole. I try to eat less carbs if possible so my recipes tend to lean that way. I just made these stuffed peppers last week and they were amazing! #3 Video games. As you’ll learn, I like to play games and I’m currently playing the StarCraft 2 campaign/playing online (with Rob when he’s not playing Destiny). I am not too far into it but it’s fun. I like the build-up-a-town and kick-ass-army type of games (think Age of Empires). Also yes, I’ve accidentally called the game Star Trek a few times.

TUESDAY: gym night and Netflix-ing/cleaning. Hannah goes to bed at 7:30pm like clockwork so when I go to the gym at night I go after she’s down, usually like 7:45/8pm. I’ll probably just do cardio this time but it’s something to get me started back on track! I want to lose about 60lbs more to get to my goal weight and also be healthier pre second pregnancy! 🤞 I’ve lost 30lbs so far (since I’ve had Hannah and gained baby weight). After the gym I’ll probably relax and watch Hulu/Netflix to wrap up the evening while I clean. I just finished Harlots on Hulu (so good), am watching season 5 of The 100 on Netflix. I want to start the new Ozark second season and still need to finish Grace and Frankie season 4. Basically Netflix and Hulu are my jam.

WEDNESDAY: dinner for my mom’s birthday and hitting the gym (more cardio – day 2 this week!)

THURSDAY: swinging by Home Depot for the half bath shelf project supplies!

FRIDAY: Hannah is staying at her grandma’s house for the night so I plan to start my shelves and hit the gym (gym day 3!!) while the stain dries.

SATURDAY: playdate (maybe – gotta confirm!) with some friends of ours that have kiddos, work on/maybe finish my shelves, then a night cap of baseboard painting.

SUNDAY: meal prepping, cleaning, games (?), and getting ready for the next week. Sundays are chill in our house so I’m sure it won’t be too chaotic. If the shelves are done I might hang them.

With blogging being super fast and easy on my phone I’ll probably just fit that in whenever I want and see how that works. Thus far it’s worked well so we’ll see if that remains the case.

Cheers to a kick ass week, y’all 🍻 let’s see how this new plan works!

Balance? What’s that…?

As of late one thing I’ve been struggling with is balance. It’s so hard to do it all and there literally aren’t enough hours in the day. Being a mom, working 40+ hours a week, renovating our house (*our kitchen reno is almost done!*), cooking/cleaning, trying to hit the gym, attending family/friend events, and having anytime for hobbies. I want tips on time management!

What do you do to manage your day-to-day? Do we just decide that somethings aren’t going to happen? Should I say “no” to more invites to use that time otherwise? Do I pass up the “me hobbies” for more girlfriend time? Do I just sleep less and jam in as much as I can? I feel like there’s a zillion directions to go in!

Currently, I use a planner (family calendar on the fridge so the hubs can see what the schedule has in store) and a personal planner that I keep everything in. Essentially it’s the same stuff written in two places but I like being able to carry the one with me. Plus that one has week+month views. I’m weird.

Anyways… what works best for you and your family, oh smart, insightful interwebs? I’m hoping to go into the fall season with a better “plan” and am thinking some feedback could be good! Let’s hear it!

At it Again…

Last I blogged I had no kiddo, lived in Germany, and just graduated college. Man how different life was back then! Now we’re living in the states again, we have a 15 month old baby girl, I’m working a big girl job, Rob’s in college, and we’re constantly renovating our house!

After a visit to my sister’s this past weekend I realized I missed blogging and loved having my blog to look back on so I figured I’d try it out again. Blogging is a big time commitment so, as a full-time working mom and busy wife, I’m sure it’ll look different this time around but I’m excited to see if it’s something I can do again! First stop: this WordPress app so I can blog on the go! 😂With this blog I’m planning to just share the ins and outs of our Ruwe family: daily adventures, home renovations, DIY projects, and more!
